Uses for Detrol LA
Detrol LA capsules are once daily extended release capsules indicated for the treatment of overactive bladder with symptoms of urge urinary incontinence, urgency, and frequency.
How Detrol LA should be taken.
This medication comes as a tablet and an extended-release (long-acting) capsule to take by mouth. The tablet is usually taken twice a day. The extended-release capsule is usually taken once a day with liquids. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your physician or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Take this medication exactly as directed. Do not take more or less of it or take it more often than prescribed by your physician.
Swallow the extended-release capsules whole; do not split, chew, or crush them.
Precautions or Warnings for Detrol LA
Do not take Detrol LA if you have a blockage of the urinary tract (difficulty urinating); or
a blockage in the intestines.
Before taking Detrol LA, tell your physician if you have liver disease; kidney disease; or glaucoma.
You may not be able to take this medication, or you may require a dosage adjustment or special monitoring if you have any of the conditions listed above.
Detrol LA is in the FDA pregnancy category C. This means that it is not known whether this medication will be harmful to an unborn baby. Do not take this medication without first talking to your physician if you are pregnant or could become pregnant during treatment.
It is not known whether Detrol LA will harm a nursing infant. Do not take this medication without first talking to your physician if you are breast-feeding a baby.
What to do if you miss a dose of Detrol LA
If you miss a dose of this medication, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the What to do if you miss a dose of Detrol LA and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do NOT take 2 doses at once.
Side effects that may be possible for Detrol LA
If you experience an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of your throat; swelling of your lips, tongue, or face; or hives), stop taking Detrol LA and seek emergency medical attention.
Other, less serious side effects may be more likely to occur. Continue to take this medication and talk to your physician if you experience dry mouth, dryness of the eyes, blurred vision or large pupils, upset stomach, headache, constipation, difficulty urinating, drowsiness, or dizziness.
Side effects other than those listed here may also occur. Talk to your physician about any side effect that seems unusual or that is especially bothersome.
How to store Detrol LA
Store at controlled room temperature 20° to 25° C (68° to 77° F).
What to do when overdosing on Detrol LA
Seek emergency medical attention. Symptoms of Detrol LA overdose are not known but might include restlessness, tremor, irritability, seizures, delirium, hallucinations, flushing, fever, nausea, vomiting, a fast heartbeat and possibly coma.
Other information on Detrol LA
Use caution when driving, operating machinery, or performing other hazardous activities. this medication may cause dizziness, drowsiness, or blurred vision. If you experience dizziness, drowsiness, or blurred vision, avoid these activities.
Use alcohol cautiously. Alcohol may increase drowsiness and dizziness while taking Detrol LA.
Avoid becoming overheated in hot weather. this medication may increase the risk of heat stroke because it may decrease sweating. Drink plenty of fluid to maintain adequate hydration.
