Uses for Aphthasol

Aphthasol, in the form of a paste, treats aphthous ulcers (canker sores) in the mouth.

How Aphthasol should be taken.

Apply Aphthasol to the canker sore area promptly as soon as you notice it. Immediately wash your hands after using amlexanox paste. Keep using Aphthasol until the sore is healed. If it is not healed after 10 days, see or check with your physician. Do not get the paste in your eyes. If any gets in your eyes, flush them out with water right away.

Precautions or Warnings for Aphthasol

Tell your physician if you have ever had any unusual or allergic reaction to amlexanox. Also tell your health care professional if you are allergic to any other substances, such as preservatives or dyes. Amlexanox has not been studied in humans. However, studies in animals have not found that it causes any birth defects or other problems.

What to do if you miss a dose of Aphthasol

If you miss a dose of this medication, apply it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the What to do if you miss a dose of Aphthasol and go back to your regular dosing schedule.

Side effects that may be possible for Aphthasol

Along with its needed effects, a medication may cause some unwanted effects. The following side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medication. However, check with your physician if any of these effects continue or are bothersome. Less serious side effects may include: burning, stinging, or pain on the part that medication is applied; inflammation of mucous membranes; diarrhea; nausea.

How to store Aphthasol

Keep out of the reach of children. Store away from heat and direct light. Do not store in the bathroom, near the kitchen sink, or in other damp places. Heat or moisture may cause the medication to break down. Do not keep outdated medication or medication no longer needed. Be sure that any discarded medication is out of the reach of children.

Seek emergency medical attention if an overdose is suspected.
